Rural Healthcare and Community Outreach

Cebu, Philippines

#NT 32975 | 2 Females | May 16 – June 30*

$1,100 + Airfare & Insurance

Good health & nutrition is a challenge in the rural areas of the Philippines. Poverty has been described as "not a lack of money, but a lack of choices." By being a part of this rural healthcare team, you will live & work in rural Filipino communities, learn from those who live on less than $1 per day, and bring Christ's love and help to “the least of these." Daily ministry will include personal evangelism, children's healthcare/Bible classes, assisting local healthcare workers with basic medical procedures, teaching/demonstrating basic first aid, and teaching/demonstrating basic nutrition through establishing gardens. We prefer students who are studying healthcare-related fields.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This is a ripe harvest field! People are open & responsive to the gospel. The Philippines is 7-9% evangelical, depending on whose statistics you use. Specific cultural issues will be addressed during orientation. Team will stay in dorm-style housing. Bathroom & bathing facilities will be indoor but will be very basic. Toilet will be flushed with a bucket of water. Bathing will be done with a bucket & scoop. During weekend/community ministry, the team may stay in the home of a national or in a community building & bathe at an outdoor pump.

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS: If you have ongoing needs, medication management, or need counseling related to depression, anxiety, PTSD, or sexual abuse, these resources are generally unavailable. Team members should be in good overall health. Field supervisor should be made aware of pre-existing conditions. Members with severe food allergies or food preferences may want to consider other options as their needs may not be able to be accommodated.

*This is a Nehemiah Teams assignment. Dates include a joint orientation and debriefing in the U.S. Dates are non-negotiable.
